Dewpoint the Beginning:

Dewpoint is a Christian Progressive Death Metal band formed in 1997 in Deming, New Mexico by Jon Kildare. Being a Christian and a big fan of Progressive and Death Metal bands like Paradise Lost, Opeth, Dream Theater, Carcass and My Dying Bride and seeing the utter lack of Christian based bands in the genres decided that it would be appropriate to get a group off the ground that is Aggressive and Experimental as well as Unique and Thought provoking. Jon and his Cousin Tim “Sspitt” Edwards began writing songs together and setting the groundwork for what is rapidly becoming one of the most influential and fresh sounds in Death Metal music. With songs averaging 10 minutes in length, there is a lot of room for experimentation and development in the overall sonic journey each song takes it’s listener on. With their first album, Severe Thunderstorm Warning, Jon has used his unique talent and unhealthy interest in meteorological phenomenon and crafted songs that both explore the consequences of failure in one’s life to the subsequent grace that is always waiting to lift one up from beneath the mire of life’s unending beatings.

In late 2002 things began to look bleak for Dewpoint, as close friend and drummer Brian Farris moved from New Mexico to California and Tim chose to return to school to become an X-Ray Technician and Jon moved to Utah. Jon took a break from song writing for a time, and spent time with his family and develop a new outlook on his music, as he was not really satisfied with where his talents were taking the overall sound. Late in 2005 Jon began playing again and recorded a few tracks and made them available on the internet and received good reviews on each track, and decided to get Dewpoint back off the ground and a new flow of songwriting began. With up til January 2007 some 20 new songs written and the addition of a Second Guitarist and Keyboard Player, Mike Zauner, is preparing to record a Demo and finish Severe Thunderstorm Warning, with enough songs to begin work on a second album as well. Severe Thunderstorm Warning is a collection of the songs Jon wrote from the foundation of Dewpoint in 1997 until Late 2006. Tracks such as Subsequence, Dead, and Enlightened Perception show the vast diversity of songwriting and angst felt during the time each on was written.

The name Dewpoint came as an epiphany to Jon, who is an avid Weather Channel fan. The higher the dew point in a given area, the more likely the weather will turn bad, Tornadoes, Hail storms, etc, as well as making the air feel sticky and uncomfortable. Jon thought the name would be fitting for a Metal band as the Dewpoint can make it either uncomfortable and miserable or make a cool day feel better.
